Canadian Nationals in Vancouver B.C went super well for me. The first day of the event was the course racing which I won every heat, putting me number one in Canada for course racing. As for the rest of the event the wind was a little too light for the freestyle but, during the light wind we built a 40ft slider. After the event we got a couple days of wind and got a chance to session the kicker and the new 40ft slider we built.

History was made over the weekend with Ontario’s first Olympic style kiteboarding course race competition. More than 20 of Ontario’s best riders gathered on the shores of Lake Erie for the Cabrinha / Silent Sports Sherkston Beach Bash.

Eighteen year old Canadian Freestyle champion Sam Medysky’s first place bullets in both races gave him the victory. Sam said he enjoyed the entire weekend, “Sherskson was a great family kiteboarding venue. My mom, dad and sister had a great time. We stayed right on the water. The course was a decent size and really let us get spread out. The action was right in front of the spectators. My custom Rogue Wave board was working really well. Racing is way more fun than I thought it would be.”

Results:
1st Sam Medysky - Rogue Wave, Naish
2nd John Bryja – Rogue Wave, Cabrinha
3rd Joel Nelson -  Jimmy Lewis, Cabrinha

Taiba Brazil!

I spent most of September and October working construction in Toronto to make some money for my trip to Brazil. My good friend David Drinkwater and I have been riding everyday so far. I’m currently working on double handle passes and consistency. The 2009 Naish kites and board are amazing! I started riding a bigger board on my trip to Brazil a 134 Naish Thorn (www.naishkites.com) I’ve found I can land a lot more and pop a lot harder I’ll continue to post news from Brazil.

Taiba Brazil

I’ve been riding everyday since I got hear, so I decided to take yesterday off to let me body recover and get back to full strength. I’ve got a bit of a sore in my left elbow feels a little bit like tennis elbow. I’m hoping after having yesterday off its gone away. I met another Naish rider (www.naishkites.com) a couple days ago at the lagoon. James Boulding he is from the UK. We exchanged a couple e-mail and today the plan is to put together a solid video and send it off to Naish so they can put it up on Naish TV. Today I’m planning to do a few KGB’s and sticks some grabs in with them. I’ll post the video when its complete.

Taiba Brazil

Yesterday I met up with James Boulding in the morning at the lagoon to get some footage for our video. I was on my 8m torch which was way to big for the wind so we decided to wait till the early evening to shot. My evening session went well passed some nice back mobes with the kite low and worked on doubles. Happy Halloween!

Taiba Brazil

Yesterday I had the best session so far in Brazil. It was blowing pretty good and I was lit up on my 8m torch. I’ve been working on sent doubles lately but yesterday I decided to try a back mobe 7 just for kicks. I passed the double the first time trying it, I continued to work on them throughout the morning and was able to passes a few of them. In the afternoon I did a down winder to Paracaru with a few Canadian friends who are on vacation here. Today I’m going to try and get a back mobe 7 on film.

Paracuru, Brazil Contest

I've been in a contest over the past weekend in Paracuru, Brazil. The contest consist of freestyle, waves, and racing the top Brazilian riders were all registered for the whole event. I decided to register for the racing and freestyle. Saturday was the single elimination for the freestyle portion of the event. My first heat went terrible, crashing my kite causing it to deflate then have to quickly rush and set up another. So the singles didn't go my way getting put out in the first round due to gear malfunction. Sunday morning was the start to the race from Taiba to Paracuru which is about a 15km distance. I rigged my 14 meter even though most competitors were rigging 9 and 10 meter kites. I had a ton of power but, most of the race was behind the top two riders in Brazil. In the last 3 km I took a couple good tacks and managed past second and first place. I finished 25 meters ahead of second place.

An hour later they decided to run the double elimination of the freestyle portion of the event. I was still very tired from the race so the doubles did go great for me either coming in 8th place. Either way I was stoked on the contest and learned a couple new tricks to start working on.
